Counselor
Dear RHS Students and Parents:
We are very excited to welcome all of our students to the 2022-2023 school year! We are off to a great start and would like to highlight some important information for parents and students. Firstly, we encourage all parents and students to have PowerSchool access to view grades and attendance. Please contact your child’s counselor for assistance with access. We encourage parents and students to monitor grade progress continually, and if you have concerns about grades feel free to contact the teacher or the counselor immediately. We also encourage parents and students to explore “life after high school.” Please converse with your child about future plans: career and college options. We have implemented a college and career readiness online support: Naviance (website Naviance.com). Every student has access through this website to do career interest assessments which will help them explore career choices. They can login with their computer login information. Dates for Naviance informational sessions are forthcoming and will be posted in the google classrooms and PowerSchool. You may contact Keith Maes via Email career/readiness counselor, for more information. Class dues of $15.00/year are due to class sponsors. Dues are required to participate in Homecoming activities, prom and queen of courts. A listing of class sponsors is included on the next page. Furthermore, we encourage parents to discuss with their children the importance of receiving a high school education J , as we strive for all of our students to graduate! After school credit recovery program and tutoring dates will be posted as they become available.
Seniors: We would like to remind you to have your scholarship portfolio ready: 2-3 letters of recommendation, personal essay to include accomplishments, participation and accolades, as well as future educational plans, in preparation of applying for scholarships. Scholarships are being posted to the senior google classroom and you may see your counselor for assistance and/or information. Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA) will be open for application starting October 2. Colleges and Universities encourage all students to apply for FAFSA. We will be hosting financial aid events. Dates for those are forthcoming and will be posted to the senior google classroom and PowerSchool. College application season is also open. We encourage all students to apply to colleges of interest to include our local options of NMHU and Luna Community College. NMHU and LCC will be on campus throughout the year to assist students with the application process. Please see your counselor if you need help. SAT Testing for seniors will take place on October 27, 2022. Herff Jones (cap and gown supplier) will be on campus on October 6 and October 21, 2022 to take orders. Faith Gelvin via Email is this year’s yearbook sponsor. Senior picture submission deadline for yearbooks is December 1, 2022.
Juniors: We encourage students to develop a scholarship portfolio. Please meet with your counselor, if you haven’t done so, for a credit check. SAT testing for juniors will take place on April 18, 2023. ASVAB testing for juniors will take place on February 8, 2023.
Sophomores and Freshmen: We encourage you to continue developing and implementing your study skills to be successful with all of your classes. If you need support, feel free to talk to your teacher or counselor.
We look forward to working with all of you to make this a very successful year!
